Incorporated in 1973, the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society Museum is a converted 30-room school building of the former 1850s Mount Pleasant Collegiate Institute. Home to the very first American gold rush, Cabarrus County was established as a main source of gold shortly after the Revolutionary War. Some of the museum’s highlights include a quilting room, a sewing room, a World War I room and artifacts from early schools and settlers in the area. The museum is located just northeast of Charlotte, in downtown Mt. Pleasant.
